On December 17, 2023, at around 20:00, the police detained S.A., a resident of Esentepe, who was summoned to the Nicosia Judicial Branch for the purpose of investigation regarding the crime of violating the 1st degree military restricted zone, and has been in the TRNC for 79 days as of September 29, 2023. He explained that it was determined that he did not have any immigration procedures from the competent authority and was residing without a residence permit.
Police announced that the suspect will be brought to court on December 18, 2023 and a 3-day detention order has been issued for him. The police reported that the necessary investigation was carried out by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during this period.
The police officer requested that the suspect remain in detention in the central prison for a period not exceeding 20 days, as he did not have legal status, until his cases were discussed.
Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç, who evaluated the testimony before her, ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not to exceed 20 days.
