Surrounded by the sounds of silence, in the near darkness of the night, the memorial organized in honor of the heroes of the First World War began on the evening of November 6. The monument, or more precisely the centenary of the commemorative column, was made in 1924, so now the people of Csurgó bowed their heads not only to the heroes, but also to the people who knew him the heroes, and for the builders of the memorial columns.
On Heroes’ Day, it was announced that the monument built in honor of the heroes of the First World War, proposed by Count József Károlyi, is 100 years old. The Csurgó board at the time supported the initiative on May 1, 1924, but there was no budget reserve for it, so in August 1924, 20 million crowns were collected as an additional tax, and this is how the a table with the names of the heroes who were completed.
