“It was a great pleasure for us to return to this competition” – Guineafoot

PARIS- After several decades of absence, Guinea made a brilliant return to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for only the second time in its history in the discipline of football.

Unfortunately, if this return allows us to put our country’s football back on the world stage, the sports results were not so satisfactory despite the great efforts made by decision-makers. The Syli Olympique will have conceded three defeats in their three rounds against New Zealand, France and the United States respectively. However, the Guinean authorities, especially the Ministry of Sports and the Guinean Football Federation, are already learning lessons to better prepare for upcoming events. The President of Féguifoot, Aboubacar Sampil, who was with the team, returned to ensure that everything went well, as usual, to Guinea’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The President of Mr. Guinea ended an absence of more than 50 years from the Olympic Games in men’s football by qualifying for Paris 2024…

Indeed, it is our great pleasure. We still remember our trip to Paris for the replay against Indonesia, which allowed us to secure our place for those Olympic Games. This qualification was an unforgettable moment for all of Guinea.

Our team was placed in Group A with France, New Zealand and the United States. Unfortunately, despite all our efforts, we recorded three defeats.

It was a great pleasure to return to this tournament. We experienced each game with great enthusiasm. It is not easy to accept defeaters, of course, but they should be a lesson for us to better prepare for the future. It is essential to learn from this experience and improve our strategies for future competitions.

What memories do you remember from these Olympic Games?

I will remember the incredible movement of Guineans, whether in France or elsewhere, to support our young players. I would like to express my gratitude to the public and the government for their support during the preparation and participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

I would especially like to make a special mention of the Minister of Youth and Sports, His Excellency Mr. Keamou Bogola Haba who made great efforts as part of our preparation and participation in the Paris Olympics. I would also like to thank the sponsor for our participation, Kerfala Camara KPC, who also helped us in moving to support our Olympic team. I will not end without wishing great success to the other Guinean athletes who are defending our country in these Games.
