Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski accused his former club Bayern Munich of lying about the circumstances of his departure. He called the statements of the German big club a pile of nonsense.
“Some people didn’t tell me the truth, and honesty was always important to me. It probably bothered them and I felt it wasn’t working. I wanted to leave,” Lewandowski told ESPN.
His move to Barcelona has been in the spotlight for weeks. “They tried to defend my sale to another club, it must have been difficult to explain to the fans. And I had to accept it despite the fact that it was a big pile of nonsense. But I still know that I have the support of the fans.” expressed his opinion on the situation of the Polish representative, who for a long time announced that he wanted to leave the team of the record-breaking German champion a year before the contract expired.
The 33-year-old striker spent eight seasons at Bayern and scored 344 goals in 375 matches. The club’s executive director Oliver Kahn explained the situation as follows at the time of his departure: “In May, I ended the discussion – we did not have a specific offer on the table, nor a replacement for Roberto. Since then, the situation has changed fundamentally. Barcelona increased the amount to a level where the sale is absolutely advantageous for us. In addition, we recently acquired Sadio Mane in the transfer market, a world-class offensive player. That’s why we have now agreed, only verbally for now, the contract is being fine-tuned.”
After completing the transfer worth 45 million euros, the representatives of the club thanked Lewandowski and wished him success.
