It used to sell very well, now bicycle sales are getting ‘tired’

Jakarta

Cycling activity or Bicycling happily had become a trend at the beginning of the mid-2020 COVID-19 pandemic. However, now this trend seems to be starting to be abandoned. This was acknowledged by the Chairman of the Indonesian Bicycle Entrepreneurs Association (Apsindo) Eko Wibowo Utomo.

According to Eko, the downward trend can be seen from the demand for bicycle units this year, which is not as much as last year.

“Demand is still there, although not as much as before,” Eko told detik.com, Saturday (5/6/2021).

Eko gave an illustration, in 2020 entrepreneurs had an expectation of demand reaching 7-8 million units of bicycles a year. However, for 2021, there is a decrease in expectations to only 5 million units per year. Meanwhile, the stock can be more than that, aka bicycle oversupply can occur.

“If sold, our expectations will not be more than 5 million,” he continued.

The decline in demand occurred, said Eko because people’s activities had now started to run normally as before the pandemic.

“Now it’s already running, community activities are probably 70%, so it’s back to normal, now this reduces the demand for bicycles in the market,” he said.
