Jakarta –
Cooking oil is one of the rare items in today’s society. Even though the price of cooking oil has been set to be very cheap, namely at Rp. 14,000 per liter.
Several reports say that cooking oil is getting hard to find, even in many retail stores, cooking oil shelves are empty. What exactly happened?
Chairman of the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) Roy Mandey opened up about the culprit. The main problem of the scarcity of cooking oil is the supply of goods that are increasingly accepted by retail stores.
“We don’t produce cooking oil at this retail, we only distribute it, those that are produced by producers, those who market distributors. Maybe the producers have a problem with raw materials, that’s what causes the supply to distributors to be lacking, in the end we join in less,” said Roy to detik.com, Sunday (30/1/2022).
Roy said that one of the things that made producers unable to produce was the lack of raw material for CPO from palm oil to make cooking oil.
“This supply is not smooth, right, the producers also depend on CPO. It’s all related to him, when CPO may not be distributed, then the production can’t end up being unable to send it to distributors, this is a shortage,” said Roy.
Secretary General Aprindo Solihin also acknowledged the tight supply issue, as an illustration of how low the supply of cooking oil is. He said that his party had ordered 1,000 packages of cooking oil, but what came was far from expectations. The distributor only gives 60 packages.
“Now we order to the distributor. We ordered 1,000 which was sent not that much, thank God we only got 60. Thank God it was still sent,” said Solihin to detikcom.
“So in the end what is happening now is empty,” he said.
He also said that since the initial announcement of the cooking oil policy of Rp. 14 thousand per liter, his party calculated that the existing stock could be sold for up to two weeks. But in fact it is not so, panic buying occurs in the community.
“There should have been enough stock in the shop for two weeks, there was a tremendous panic. People buying their wives lined up, husbands, children, assistants also lined up,” explained Solihin.
