When COVID-19 was first discovered in Wuhan, China, the world entered a state of panic and chaos, after which scientists and medical professionals sought to find different ways to find a cure for itself.
While the origin of the virus is still being speculated, people have turned to various medical treatments and immune-boosting supplements to counter the disease.
However, a recent study came to another conclusion that claims the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine in treating the symptoms of Covid-19, according to “timesofindia”.
The role of traditional Chinese medicine in treating coronavirus symptoms
Experts at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine have examined and evaluated the role of this traditional Chinese medicine called Yinqiao powder in treating severe symptoms of COVID-19.
The study, published in Phytotherapy Research, highlights the different ways that traditional Chinese medicines help prevent and treat infectious diseases.
What is Yinqiao powder?
Yinqiao powder is a combination of various medicinal properties that helps treat acute respiratory disease, lung injury, relieve pulmonary fibrosis, and can also improve the immune response to viruses.
It is an aromatic powder and it can taste bitter, it seems that patients with respiratory infections with fever, headache, sore throat and almost all other symptoms of Covid can be treated the same way.
Active ingredients and their impact on COVID-19
The main ingredients in the drug have been identified with the help of rutin and hesperidin, high pressure liquid chromatography – a technique in analytical chemistry used to separate, identify, and measure each component in the mixture.
According to the study, the active ingredients in yinqiao powder are luteolin, eriodictyol, quercetin, and naringenin – among others – which help fight the deadly virus.
Scientists have used extensive techniques to analyze the active ingredients, targets and potential mechanisms of Yinqiao powder in treating corona, some of which were ‘target selection and scoring DisGeNET, building gene and drug component network, molecular cohesion, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis, genetic tissue analysis, and analysis’ Career for genetics.
The authors presented various methods that Yinqiao powder could help treat Covid-19, including the TNF signaling pathway, Toll-like receptor signaling pathway, T-cell receptor signaling pathway, and MAPK signaling pathway are some of the potential mechanisms.
