Lucid Air has been described as a serious competitor to Tesla since its introduction. However, the start of production took a long time, delayed by three years against the original plans.

We can think of anything about Tesla, but the truth is that it started an electric trend. In addition, it attracted a number of new players to the field outside the world of the automotive industry, who wanted to be inspired by its success. Among them is also the American Lucid Motors, presented from the beginning as a serious rival of Tesla. This year, it is finally starting to produce its first Air model.
This week, Lucid finally began series production at his Casa Grande plant in Arizona, where the first customer pieces of the Air model were created. It is a luxury sedan in the style of Tesla Model S, which relies on giant batteries with a capacity of up to 113 kWh, thanks to which it can travel up to 837 kilometers without recharging, depending on the version. The top version relies on two electric motors with a total output of up to 828 kW and a torque of over 1,000 Nm. Like the Tesla, the car relies on advanced driving assistants.
The start of series production is a great glory for Lucid, it is part of the “open week”, during which the carmaker gives the public an insight into its production plants. Both to the powertrain factory and to the assembly plant.

At the same time, however, it turns out that starting production of a new car is not an easy task at all. Lucid Air introduced itself to the world for the first time at the end of 2016 with the fact that it will go on sale in 2018. The first pieces were to go to customers at the beginning of 2019.

However, this did not succeed, only in the second half of 2019 did the construction of the production plant begin. Lucid had to deal with his financial situation, an injection from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PID) had to help. The company’s plans have thus shifted, so the first customers of their cars will not see it until this year. The first deliveries to clients are planned for the end of October.
Lucid currently has over 13,000 bookings on Air. The first cars to be created are the introductory Dream Edition, which will eventually produce 520 pieces, according to the range of 520 miles (837 km) according to the American methodology. In the future, it plans to produce up to 400,000 electric cars a year. The luxury sedan is to be complemented in 2023 by an SUV, developed as Project Gravity.
