It takes 400 donors a day for complacency

In difficulty, blood transfusion centers are struggling to build up sufficient blood reserves. During the previous weeks, the situation has been so difficult that several centers in the Kingdom have had difficulty meeting the needs for this vital material. However, the month of Ramadan seems to be a blessing for the Casablanca Regional Center which has been able to improve its stock thanks to the growing influx of donors who are more and more numerous. Contacted by us, the president of the Casablanca CRTS, Amal Darid Ibnelfarouk, told us of her relief after the palpable improvement in stocks, which is made possible thanks to the commitment of donors. Nearly eighty people came to the Center on the first day of the holy month, she told us.

According to our interlocutor, the authorities have launched awareness campaigns in mosques on the occasion of the holy month to make people aware of the importance of donating blood. Mobile units have been dispatched to mosques for this purpose. This awareness-raising effort immediately produced the expected results and the CRTS teams hope to obtain one hundred packets per day by the end of Ramadan. The Center has received good news from the ultra supporters of the Raja de Casablanca team, who have promised to flock daily to the Regional Center to the tune of 150 donors a day.

Despite these advances, the current stock is far from meeting the needs of the Casablanca-Settat region in the long term. It needs 400 donors a day to achieve self-satisfaction, explains the Director of the Center, adding that 600 packs of blood are consumed every day in the various hospitals in the region, ie 35% of national consumption.

In addition, blood transfusion centers face another major problem. It is the shortage of immunoglobulins which has caused a lot of ink to flow recently. The Ministry of Health has carried out a vast operation to supply the various blood transfusion centers in addition to hospitals and clinics for cases of extreme urgency. This operation was announced exclusively by L’Opinion on March 17.
