What used to be a fairly routine time is turning into a very unpleasant time this year. The heating season is starting in many places. This means that central heating is turned on in apartment buildings and boilers are turned on in single-family homes, regardless of their energy.
Get ready for a big difference
This year also means that families are literally starting to burn money. Electricity and gas prices have jumped very significantly and many are already using new tariffs, which bring prices many times higher than in the past. The state has promised some capping, but it will be about three times the amount of current payments and, moreover, it has not yet been approved.
Many people now don’t know how to regulate the heating, because they just didn’t deal with it before. Their concerns are justified. An incorrectly set heating system, possibly radiators, and at the same time neglecting energy saving measures can become very expensive this year. All of these steps can significantly reduce power consumption, but on the other hand they can also increase it if you don’t do it right. Eventually, the difference can be up to fifty percent between the two extreme examples, which can mean tens or hundreds of thousands of crowns a year.
First you need to ventilate the radiators, ideally before they begin to melt. But don’t forget to ventilate continuously even during the heating season. This is the only way to achieve optimal performance and avoid excessive consumption. It is correct to start with the lowest radiators and go up.
End of overheating
The heating must also be cleaned of dust deposits. This can surprisingly reduce their effectiveness. Conversely, placing the aluminum foil behind the heater will increase it. It will reflect the heat in the center of the room and won’t stick so much to the walls, where it’s not needed.
A good seal is essential. Take a tour of your apartment or house and check for heat leaks. Such a place must be sealed. This is especially true near windows or entrance doors. This way you can save a lot.
Czechs have historically been used to overheating their homes a lot. According to surveys, as many as 60 percent of households heated to 25 degrees. If you keep doing it this year, you really won’t pay. Nor is it particularly beneficial. The optimum temperature in the living room is 21 degrees and in the bedroom even only 18 degrees. If you are cold in such an environment, you need to dress well. Nobody says you have to walk around the house naked. Carpets instead of cold floors will also warm the house. Don’t forget to wear rubber boots too.
Ventilation is also very important in autumn and winter. Even in these seasons many people are used to leaving the windows open “for a fan” all day. The heat losses are huge in that case. On the contrary, it is recommended to ventilate only several times a day, but intensively for a few minutes. Then close the windows.
