For a long time, there were two car brands that were striving to be Norway’s bestsellers: Volkswagen and Toyota. But then Volkswagen withdrew and in recent years the balance of power between the two rivals has been clear: Volkswagen has sold significantly more cars than its Japanese competitor.
This will also be the case this year, but now Toyota is embarking on an impressive final sprint of 2020.
In November, no car brand was more popular than Toyota, according to recent figures from the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV).
Electric Volvo
Toyota registered 1,753 passenger cars in November, giving a market share of 14 percent. This is an increase of 601 cars from the same month in 2019 and most of all car brands in the monthly overview from OFV.
Volkswagen, on the other hand, ended up with 1,385 cars, a very large part of which is the new electric car ID.3 where the customer queue has been long. Now, however, it looks like it is slowing down a bit for this car.
In third place we find BMW with 1,198 cars, while Volvo takes fourth place with 787 cars. Here, the deliveries of the electric XC40 are in full swing, this will give Volvo a real boost also in December.
The XC40 is Volvo’s first electric car and is becoming a common sight on Norwegian roads.

Rechargeable hybrid
Fifth place in November goes to Mercedes. Here, too, a lot is about electric cars, as well as rechargeable hybrids. 735 Norwegians became owners of a brand new Mercedes in November.
Back to Toyota: The Rav 4 family SUV has arrived as a rechargeable hybrid and was the most popular Toyota model in November with 837 cars. With that, this is the second best-selling and registered car in November, beaten only by a single model. It is not surprising that VW ID.3 can register for a total of 986 cars. RAV4 is also the only non-electric car in the top 5 in Norway.
VW ID.3 is Norway’s best-selling and registered car in November. But the margin down to the Toyota RAV4 is not large.

Several models sell well
Furthermore, the registration of several other Toyota models has been good in November: Yaris (439), Corolla (244) and Toyota CH-R (112) are some of the numbers.
– We have skilled dealers who have really been involved in selling and preparing cars to satisfied Toyota customers all over the country. It is a fantastic motivation to end a challenging year in such a good way. The customers are different and have different needs, and Toyota has always been concerned with having a broad portfolio of models. Hybrid and plug-in hybrids have a large following, and when several different models sell well during the day, it is a confirmation that we have done a lot right, says information manager Espen Olsen in Toyota Norway, in a press release.

Toyota RAV4 has been among Norway’s best-selling SUVs for a number of years. Now it bites extra well in the rechargeable version.

Exciting news in progress
So far this year, a total of 120,838 new cars have been registered, of which 11,500 are from Toyota. Olsen is also positive about the future prospects.
– There are uncertain times, but we have a record-breaking order bank of orders that have largely remained stable throughout the year. And we have a lot of exciting news going on.
