These rising figures are not specific to Belgium, they are recorded in many European countries. This trend worries the epidemiologist Pierre Van Damme: “infections are increasing in an increasing number of places in Europe. It seems that we have lost control”.
The vaccinologist at the University of Antwerp finds it important that Sciensano re-publishes the figures for the epidemic every day because these statistics have a greater impact on the population. “At the end of the first wave, our average was good. Then there has been a steady decrease in the number of cases, but we find that the average is increasing again. We have noticed more than 100 infections in the past few days. C is a strong signal that reminds us that it is not over. “
Pierre Van Damme also wanted to send a message to the population: “We must all realize that it is still important to follow the measures very strictly, otherwise all that we have won will be lost”.
Asked about CNS to be held this Wednesday, the epidemiologist hopes that no new measures in favor of deconfinement will be taken: “Let us leave all the measures as they are. However, we must follow up on the measures that have already been taken”.
