It rains on residents of Estelí, while they seek to be vaccinated against covid-19

In the rain, thousands of residents of Estelí hope to get a vaccine against covid-19, either during the night of this Wednesday, or in the morning of Thursday.

Although the vaccination day in the city of Estelí is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, from early in the morning of Wednesday hundreds of people approached the four centers authorized to apply the vaccine to people over 30 years of age, but one downpour surprised them in the afternoon. Some residents have withdrawn from the vaccination posts, while others have taken shelter with the same chairs from the premises and plastics.

A female resident who is in the House for People with Special Needs in that city told LA PRENSA that the health personnel told them that they will begin to vaccinate in that place when the vaccines arrive. That could be in the next few hours, taking into account the state of the weather.

“The water reached the knee up to the people outside … Everyone got wet … People are covering themselves with the same chairs,” said Esteliana.

According to this citizen, in the place where it is located there are three blocks. One, of around 130 people, inside the enclosure; another intermediate, with around 500 residents and those who are outside, which are thousands, he said.

Morning

Local media and residents of that city reported that since after 5:00 in the morning, hundreds of people began to form long lines in front of the vaccination centers, installed in the House for People with Special Needs, in the Previsional Medical Clinic , the Leonel Rugama Health Center and the Óscar Gámez health post.

As the day progressed, the lines grew, so at noon the centers opened their doors, between two and three hundred people were allowed in to continue the wait seated and under awnings, while outside the population continued to overflow in looking for the first dose of the vaccine.

Local media attribute the highly anticipated overflow of the residents to the fact that it was announced that for the entire Estelí department only 20,000 doses were assigned. So in fear of running out of the vaccine – as has happened to residents of other municipalities – they preferred to “get up early” one day before the shift.

In Ocotal the day began at dawn

Vaccination days are still characterized by the overflow of people who, desperate to get immunized, forget that these crowds can become an important source of contagion.

While in Estelí the overflow began just with sunrise, in the Ocotal Maternity Home, departmental capital of Nueva Segovia, where it was planned that they would vaccinate this Wednesday, October 6, starting at 6:00 in the morning, about two thousand people woke up waiting to receive the first dose.

As in other municipalities, due to the crowding of people, the application of the vaccine began after 12:00 at night and according to local media reports it was carried out in an agile and orderly manner. The same happened in the other two centers enabled for this day.

Unlike other municipalities, the political propaganda here was not evident and the health brigade was greeted with applause and prayers. Although in the prayers he took the opportunity to thank the good government of Daniel Ortega and his wife, the official spokeswoman Rosario Murillo, for the vaccines.
