Lithuanian cucumber growers are already picking the first cucumbers and are giving advice on how to keep them fresh, reports the “Lrytas” portal.
The first cucumbers are not only tasty, but also tender, so agronomist Jonas Valevičius advises how to store them longer.
“After buying cucumbers, you should put them in a bag and then put them in the refrigerator. You should not keep them on the table, because the moisture evaporates, the cucumber dries up and withers”, explained J. Walevičus.
On the first day, about 2 tons of the first small-fruited cucumbers were harvested in the greenhouses of Kēdainai. Here, in addition to the usual varieties, new varieties that require less sunlight are also being tried.
“We usually harvest the cucumbers when they grow to 12 cm and weigh 90-120 grams,” the agronomist told the television.
