After 12 years of its launch, the Mitsubishi ASX receives its second generation this fall. From an aesthetic point of view it is surprisingly similar to the Renault Captur, and in the technical part it boasts four electrified engines out of five proposed by the Japanese house. The new ASX is built in Spain at the Valladoid plant and will be available from spring next year.
At first glance it is difficult to distinguish the new Mitsubishi ASX from Renault Captur in terms of aesthetics, the two models look extremely cool. A difference can be seen instead at the front, where the grille of the new ASX integrates the Mitsubishi Dynamic Shield logo. The new generation of ASX models is built on the same CMF-B platform that we know from the French model, developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
Things continue in the same direction in the interior, the passenger compartment being virtually identical to that of the Renault Captur models. The car is equipped with an analog instrument cluster, next to which there is a screen with a diagonal of 4.2 inches. On request, customers can opt for a 7-inch or even a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, which also includes a 3D navigation system. The central display can be 7 or 9.3 inches.
Mitsubishi offers five different engines
The Japanese manufacturer offers us a whole range of engines that groups no less than five different engines, four of which are electrified. For those who do not have too many pretensions in this chapter, the ASX can be equipped with a turbo petrol unit, with a capacity of 1.0 liters, capable of delivering 91 horsepower. In this case, the transmission is provided by a six-speed manual gearbox.
In addition, we have a petrol engine with a displacement of 1.3 liters, offered with two power versions – 140 and 158 horsepower respectively. The engine also contains a 12 volt micro-hybrid system. Transmission takes place both by means of a six-speed manual gearbox, and by means of a seven-speed automatic transmission and double clutch.
In the engine range of the new ASX, there is also a hybrid system, consisting of a 1.6-liter heat engine and two electric motors powered by a 1.3 kWh battery. The system is capable of developing 143 horsepower and is equipped with a multimode automatic gearbox.
Finally the new ASX the new generation is also offered with a plug-in hybrid engine. The system consists of a 1.6-liter heat engine, next to which there are two electric motors. The power developed by the entire system is 159 horsepower and the battery has a capacity of 10.5 kWh. According to information provided by Mitsubishi, the range in electric mode reaches 49 kilometers.
