The new film by Tuscan director Leonardo Pieraccioni arrives in Italian cinemas on Thursday January 18, 2024. A disordered family like so many others finds itself reunited to fulfill the elderly father’s last wish. A small dream, but impossible to achieve, which will push the three protagonist brothers to resort to an amusing expedient to make it come true. This is the initial idea of It looks a lot like Paristhe new film by Leonardo Pieraccioni which returns to the big screen two years after It Sex of angels with a comedy inspired by a true story. The protagonists, alongside the director, are the two stage sisters, Giulia Bevilacqua and Chiara Francini, and the elderly father, Professor Canistracci, played by Nino Frassica, while Massimo Ceccherini plays a very worrying neighbor.

It looks a lot like Paris, the plot of Leonardo Pieraccioni’s new film
In the center of the plot of It looks a lot like Paris there is a family made up of an elderly father and three adult children, two sisters and a brother, who have not seen each other for five years. When the father falls ill and his life is in danger, the hospital entrusts him to the care of his children, who decide to do the last thing together, overcoming old grievances and misunderstandings. Professor Canistracci’s dream is a trip to Paris, but in his state it is impossible for him to face this last adventure, so the three children do their best: they rent a camper van and simulate the trip from Florence to the capital French woman without ever leaving her son, went around in circles in the Tuscan countryside and organized a long road trip to give the last joy to her dying father. With the complicity of willing but often clumsy assistants, overcoming checkpoints and checks by (local) police forces, and under the watchful eye and always within gunshot of a disturbing couple of neighbors, mother and son , ready for war. A journey which, obviously, will serve not only the elderly father, but also the three brothers to face suspense, fears and resentments, reveal hitherto unspeakable secrets and, ultimately, get to know each other and therefore understand each other better. .
It looks a lot like Paris, a beautiful true story transformed into a comedy that never gets off the ground
A beautiful true story (as the director wants to make it known when he dedicates the film to the two brothers who were really the protagonists in 1982), full of flavor, transformed into a comedy which unfortunately, for most of its duration , is insipid and it waters down a beautiful inspiration, potentially full of poetry, humanity and comic ideas, almost never managing to touch the heartstrings of emotion and true audience involvement.
We feel that a little more would have been enough to make the film what it perhaps wanted to be: a comedy which tells the story of a family, between smiles and bitterness, between irony and feelings, and obviously, comedy and fun. The journey of the Canistracci brothers that we find ourselves following on screen, however, does not manage to go beyond the presentation of somewhat stereotypical characters, from Chiara Francini’s milf, who lingers for a long time in caricature, to the crypto lesbian then suddenly revealed. as a drag king, up to the confrontation between father and son, who at some point have to face an unspeakable truth, which, in general, risks revolutionizing the vision of their entire life, which, however, does not create any trauma for them, shock or simple discussion, because they love each other, and a look is enough to understand and forgive each other.
All the strengths of the story are extinguished in this choice to simplify and not give too much substance to the characters and family dynamics, and the film seems to immediately renounce being anything other than a few surreal or over-the-top situations. – best secondary characters who aim to elicit fleeting laughter.
