– It is very unusual in this life that you get the opportunity to meet the very best. We get that now

Saturday will be Liverpool’s sixth meeting with Graham Potter, after he took over as manager of Brighton in 2019. Liverpool won the first two settlements, 2-1 and 3-1, but have then gone three games in a row without a win against the South Coast club.

The last two games have been at Anfield, and ended with a 0-1 loss, and 2-2 this autumn, when Liverpool led 2-0.

– We meet one of the best teams in the world. They have been playing at an incredible level for a long time now. We have enormous respect for them, for Jürgen and the support staff, and for the players, for what they have achieved alongside Manchester City. It has raised the level of the Premier League, says Potter before Saturday’s match in an interview with Sky Sports.

– I have always enjoyed meeting Liverpool, because they are one of the best. It is very unusual in this life that you get the opportunity to meet the best, so you have to look at it as a great challenge and a great opportunity.

Have seen improvement

Brighton have only won two games in 2022, and stand with four straight in the Premier League. Potter still finds a bright spot in how his team performed in the previous match, away against Newcastle.

– In the match against Newcastle we performed quite well, and especially compared to the matches against Burnley and Aston Villa. This was a step in the right direction. Against Manchester United we were punished after a mistake. Our job is to get through this period, stand together as a group and team, and learn from it, Potter says.

– The team spirit has been good. We have very good boys here. It is an honest group of players, who are obviously disappointed with the results we have had. It’s common, and you would be surprised if it was different, but want to improve it, stand together, and support each other.

Brighton – Liverpool is played on Saturday at 13.30, and is shown on TV 2 Sport Premium.
