Telenor Myanmar was established in September 2014 after a monopoly solution was abolished.
Telenor is one of the largest operators in the country with more than 16 million customers.
The company has more than 700 employees, and around 40 percent are women.
Myanmar has four telecom companies, two of which are state-controlled, MPT and Mytel. In 2013, the telemonopoly in the country was abolished, which has meant that the Qatari company Ooredoo and Telenor have been licensed and can operate in the country.
The former state-owned company Telenor is a partially privatized and listed limited company. The state is the largest owner with a share of 53.97 percent through the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

– The authorities say they want to have leading Telenor employees on the ground as long as they have not clarified whether we should be allowed to sell the business or not. That is the reason, says Brekke.
– What have you done specifically to get the person home?
– I can not go into all the dialogues we have had, but I can say we have used all possible alternatives which fortunately have succeeded in getting many others out. And now we are looking at this together with the Norwegian authorities to try to find a solution, says Brekke.
Trying every day
When asked whether it is relevant for Telenor to close the deal to get the Norwegian out, says Brekke at Telenor is waiting for a response from the authorities in the country, to something the company submitted an application for several months ago.
– We wait and see, and in the meantime we try to handle the situation we have now with the senior employee on the ground. Fortunately, we have received help from the Norwegian foreign authorities to see if we can find solutions, says Brekke.
– Are you confident that the Norwegian employee can go home if the sales process goes through?
– Yes, that is what we are really hoping for, and that is what the authorities are saying. But we try every day to get the employee and others into this very demanding situation, says Brekke.
