Books-Sayed Metwally:
As winter approaches, many people suffer from colds and some of them turn to pharmacies for over-the-counter treatment, even though this can carry many risks.
In contrast to the “cold injection” that has spread before, a new treatment has recently appeared in pharmacies, and the pioneers of social networking sites have been sharing pictures of it, known as “Averozolid”, sold as a treatment for the common cold.
Masrawy communicated with pharmacist, Abdo Talaat, to reveal the dangers of this drug when taken with the treatment of the common cold.
The doctor said: “Averozolid treatment is sometimes taken to treat a bacteria called ‘MRSA’.
And the doctor warned against taking this drug without a prescription, saying, “Taking it to treat the common cold makes the body resist this type of bacteria, and so when it gets infected with this bacteria, the immunity will not be able to fight the disease, which means weak immunity.”
For his part, Dr. Nader Al-Sayed, a pediatrician and neonatologist, confirmed on his official Facebook page that this drug is extremely dangerous to health when used as a cure for the common cold.
He added: “Averozolid is a drug used as an antibiotic to treat certain types of serious bacterial infections and is one of the most powerful antibiotics.”
He continued, “This drug is only used in case of bacterial infections, which means that it will not work with viral infections such as: colds and flu.”
He pointed out: “Linezolid is used to treat different types of bacterial infections, such as: pneumonia and infections resistant to other antibiotics.”
And the doctor warned: “Some pharmacies have cut the ribbon and sold pill therapy with medicines for colds, and this is dangerous, when you take a higher class antibiotic with slight fatigue, after a while when you get tired and you get pneumonia and take this treatment, it will not bring you any results, because the body’s resistance “to antibiotics” happened here.
And the doctor advised: “Do not take the drug without a prescription.”
