It is up to 30 percent more expensive in the Czech Lidl. Compared to Poland, only sugar and beer are cheaper here – Echo24.cz

Even our neighbors are starting to notice the expensive food in the Czech Republic. Part of the Czechs started shopping abroad because of the high prices. For example, in Poland near the border, Czechs make up half of the customers. This is reported by the Polish server Fact, who thus decided to compare the price of basic foods in Czech and Polish Lidl. Czech prices did not fare well at all compared to Polish ones. On average, prices are about a third higher, but meat, for example, is many times more expensive in the Czech Republic than in Poland.

The editor of the Fakt server put together a basket of basic foods, which included, for example, milk, apples, potatoes and butter. And he compared the prices in Lidl in Náchod and in Lidl in Toruń. Out of a total of 21 items, only beer and sugar are cheaper in the Czech Republic than in Poland. Other items are 20 to 30% more expensive. For example, a Pole pays 5.76 zlotys (CZK 32) for butter; in the Czech Lidl, the butter costs 7.16 zlotys (CZK 40). There are big differences in meat. For example, a kilogram of chicken cutlets costs PLN 17.29 (CZK 97) in Poland, while Czechs in Náchod pay PLN 41.20 (CZK 230) for it. Similar price differences also exist for pork. In the Czech Republic, the editor bought it for 37.31 zlotys (208 CZK), in Poland for 13.99 zlotys (78 CZK).

But even in Poland you can find food that is more expensive than in the Czech Republic. Beer costs 2.50 zlotys (14 crowns) in Poland, while in the Czech Republic the editors bought a cheap half liter of beer for 2.32 zlotys. (13 CZK). Sugar is also cheaper in the Czech Republic. While in Poland they pay an average of 32 crowns for it, in the Czech Republic it can be purchased for 28 crowns.

The server also looked at the average incomes of Czechs and Poles. The average wage in Poland is around 34,200 CZK, in the Czech Republic it is currently around 40,300 CZK. Nevertheless, thanks to the price difference, Poles can afford to buy roughly three times more goods for an average wage. While a Pole can buy up to 60 baskets assembled by a Polish server per month for an average salary, a Czech can only afford 27 such baskets.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) also tried to point out the high food prices. He went to Germany for shopping. We wrote about it here.
