“It is unacceptable that, 72 hours after the event, entire towns are still without electricity” – 2024-08-04 21:10:02

In light of the critical situation affecting various localities in the region due to the lack of electricity supply, the regional presidential delegate, Fabio López Aguilera, has issued strong statements demanding immediate action by the CGE Company.

The regional authority stated that “it is unacceptable that, 72 hours after the event, there are still entire areas without access to electricity. The CGE company must redouble its efforts and hire more labor to restore the service as soon as possible. Our SEC supervisory force has been present before, during and after this frontal system, complying with the legal mandate and also demanding a response, but it is the distribution companies that must respond appropriately.”

For his part, the regional director of the SEC, Felipe Lerzundi, said that “since Thursday we have been carrying out permanent inspection actions together with the presidential delegate and the regional minister of Energy, taking preventive measures in advance. When we became aware of the situation of the frontal system that would enter, we proceeded to notify the transmission and distribution company of the region, so that they would take preventive measures and send us a contingency plan, with emphasis on increasing the number of light and heavy brigades to be able to face the emergency situation that was being anticipated. Today there are worrying situations throughout the region, which will give rise to an investigation and will generate administrative procedures that will be evaluated in the coming days. Today the concern is to guarantee compliance with the standards of quality and continuity in the electricity supply for all inhabitants of the region.”

Likewise, the regional minister for Energy, Claudio Martínez, stressed that “the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels is deployed to verify that the mobile units are where they should be. Unfortunately, there is poor communication in our region on the part of CGE, not only with us as a Government, but also with the users, who are the most important. Replacement times and dates have never been given, so after the problem is solved, we will have to review the responsibilities for the deficiency in the service. People need to have clarity and certainty about when the service will arrive in concrete and that must be as soon as possible.”

In this context, the authorities and state agencies urgently call on the CGE Company to take immediate and effective measures to restore the electricity supply in the affected areas, ensuring the safety and quality of life of the inhabitants of O’Higgins.
