The holy month of Ramadan has arrived and this week Muslims around the world are starting to fast. In sports events, especially events soccer, the activities of sportsmen often tell their own story.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, for example, reportedly wanted to keep fasting ahead of the 2018 Champions League final against Real Madrid. At that time the final match in Ukraine was held at 21.00 local time, with breaking the fast about half an hour earlier.

At that time, Salah was planning to keep fasting and just eat and drink before the kick-off time of the match. Yet the fasting time in Ukraine at that time was around 18 hours. But other sources claim Mohamed Salah did not fast on the day of the final.

There is also a unique story when the goalkeeper of the Tunisian national team pretended to be injured in the middle of a trial match against Portugal and Turkey, so that his teammates could break their fast at breaking the fast.

This also happened in 2018, in international matches ahead of the preparations for the 2018 World Cup. In both matches, goalkeeper Mouez Hassen both had injuries which were followed by the scene of his team mates taking to the edge of the field to break their fast.

In 2019, Ajax Amsterdam player Noussair Mazraoui even took the time to break his fast in the middle of the match soccer while still playing on the field.

He did this when he started in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur. In the 21st minute, Mazraoui is seen snacking on energy intake iftar.
