– “Felix Jaehn cancels all performances”: Time for rest for musicians

Felix Jaehnback in 2014, dropped his remix version of the song “Cheerleader” by Jamaican rapper Omi, making him a global phenomenon from his base in Hamburg. However, ten years later, Jaehn has canceled all scheduled performances and events. On Instagram, Jaehn confessed that he had been hiding his discomfort and only realized how intense his struggle was by seeking professional help. He stressed the need for rest and healing, saying, “It’s time to rest. It’s time to heal.”

In April, Jaehn appeared on the “Sweet and Spicy” show and publicly came out as nonbinary, choosing the name “Fee” to signify his new gender-neutral identity. At the show, he also expressed his preference for the nonbinary pronouns “dey/den” in German, which correspond to the English “they/them.”

The connection between global fame and mental health is a recurring theme in Jaehn’s life. Before his rise to fame, Jaehn spoke in an interview with the German magazine stern in 2021 about the challenges. He confessed, “I was just too young. Worldwide fame came faster than I could navigate my own life. I was an insecure person who met success and got swept up in it.” When “Cheerleader” climbed the charts, Jaehn was only 20 years old. He often suffered mental breakdowns after performances and the loneliness between performances took a toll on his mental health.

In a 2021 interview, Jaehn discussed various techniques for dealing with mental health challenges, including lifestyle changes and adjusting daily routines. However, apparently these methods were not enough to address his concerns. In his recent Instagram post, Jaehn wrote that he was “too vulnerable to perform” and that “my body and mind have been sending a warning signal. It’s time to listen.” Fans showed their support in the comments, mostly emphasizing the importance of health over professional obligations.
