The vice president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and the former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, shared a virtual act this Friday for the signing of an agreement between the Patria Institute and the Lula Institute, political training organizations respectively founded by both leaders. .
During the meeting, the top leader of the Brazilian Workers’ Party vindicated the regional integration process achieved in the first decade of the 2000s, with the “strengthening” of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and the creation of the now extinct Union of South American Nations (Unasur).
“It was a wonderful, hopeful moment of light”, said Lula about the meaning of the region being ruled mostly by progressive leaders, who made Latin America a “strong political, economic and cultural bloc” like never before in history, said the former president, who regained his freedom after one year and seven months incarcerated for an accusation of alleged corruption that was finally overturned.
“Our economies began to grow, our workers began to participate and Latin America was in a process of building its pride“he recalled.
To this, Lula added, when detailing the latest geopolitical changes in the region, a “hopeful” message for the future: “Alberto Fernández recovered Argentina, [el presidente Luis] Arce recovered Bolivia. These are important times to regain hope that it is possible to build another Latin America, “he said. And he added: “I am sure that better times will come. And finally we will build the great homeland, the great South America.”

In turn, the Peronist leader once again referred to the ‘lawfare’ (judicial war) that, she reiterated, is being carried out by the Latin American right as a tool to deteriorate the previous process.
“The Judicial Power was used to destroy the memory of the peoples”, he pointed. And he added that just as before “the Armed Forces were used to evict national and popular governments,” now “sectors of the Judiciary are used to set up causes that fundamentally destroy national leaders, but above all the memory in the people of what those governments had achieved in terms of social progress, the conquest of rights “.
Finally, Fernández said he was “very happy” to sign the “first agreement between the Lula Institute and the Patria Institute” which, he affirmed, will help the training of “future leaders” political and union in both countries.
