It is planned to strengthen controls in the field of passenger transportation / Article / LSM.lv

Along with changes in regulatory enactments that directly concern the applicable penalty system for violations, the Road Transport Directorate (ATD) in cooperation with the Riga City Council Control Service plans to strengthen controls in the field of commercial passenger transport by car, including taxis, informed ATD representative Zane Plone.

The representative of the Directorate recalls that on July 1 this year the Latvian Code of Administrative Violations expired and amendments to the Road Transport Law came into force, adding a section on the application of penalties in the field of road transport in case of violations.

The amendments stipulate that a fine of 50 to 650 euros may be imposed on the driver of a vehicle if the driver has not registered in the Register of Taxi Drivers, but provides commercial transportation of passengers by car; if it provides a service through an unregistered website or mobile app; a warning or a specified fine may also be imposed if the driver infringes the rules in the field of commercial carriage of passengers by car, including taxis, does not comply with the prohibitions or does not provide adequate vehicle equipment. In turn, a fine of 350 to 1,400 euros may be imposed on the carrier in the above cases.

The amendments provide for an exception to the CO2 standards for the commercial carriage of passengers by car, including taxis, which do not apply to cars converted to accommodate a disabled driver. The law also stipulates that in taxi transport for a vehicle with a capacity of more than seven seats, the CO2 level may not exceed 190 grams per kilometer.
