“It is insignificant compared to the tragedy we have experienced”

Rafa Nadal Academy suffers ‘major damage’ amid WADA confirms Uncle Toni. The tennis player’s former coach and uncle confirmed that the floods in some parts of Spain also affected the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s sports complex.

The climate disaster in Spain caused by the DANA phenomenon resulted in torrential rains, causing some rivers to overflow their banks and causing widespread destruction in many urban areas. Over 200 people have died in the affected regions and thousands have been left homeless.

At an event in Madrid, Toni Nadal confirmed that his nephew’s tennis school was affected by the floods, but admitted that the damage was not comparable to the Valencia disaster, which affected thousands.

“It has affected the academy. It has caused a lot of damage there, but I think it is insignificant compared to the tragedy that we experienced in Valencia, not only Valencians but all Spaniards,” said Toni Nadal. “Of course, this is not the right time to talk about the events in Mallorca. I especially experienced it with great sadness, because losing so many lives at once is hard, very hard. And then the images on television “Seeing it is discouraging.”

A week ago, the Rafa Nadal Academy shared an update on the damage with several images of the affected complex. “Thank you very much for your messages of love after the big one [Regen-Emoji]”, it said.

“The most important thing is that we are all well and working to return to normal life in the academy as quickly as possible. Thanks to @BombersdeMca [die örtliche Feuerwehr] and the maintenance teams for their efforts!”

Rafa Nadal himself recently shared a message for the victims of the European country’s historic floods: “Valencia. What we see here: An example of the solidarity of its residents,” along with a clapping emoji.

Thank you all very much for your messages of love after the huge 🌨️. The important thing is that we are all well and working to recover normal life at the academy as soon as possible. Thanks to @BombersdeMca and to the great maintenance teams for your efforts! 👏🏻👏🏻
