Riyadh: Saudi Defense Minister Amir Khalid bin Salman said it was important to protect the region’s security and economic resources.
He was addressing the 19th meeting of the Joint Defense Council of Defense Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh. GCC Secretary General Dr. Naif Al Hajraf, commander of the GCC Lt. Unified Military Command General Eid bin Awad was also present at the council meeting.
On behalf of the Sovereign King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Amir Mohammed Salman, the Defense Minister welcomed the council members.
Amir Khalid said it was their responsibility to protect the security and stability of the Gulf region, national interests and economic resources, and stressed that the leadership of the countries’ leaders is important in this. He has worked to increase the military capabilities of the Member States with the safety and well-being of citizens in mind. The Defense Minister thanked member states and the Secretary General for their efforts and guidance on issues including joint military operations.
Observers believe this time the council meeting and joint discussions are very important in light of the news that Iran is threatening Saudi Arabia.
