The El Salvador women’s team fell by a 6-0 defeat against Canada, in the debut that marked the national team’s historic participation in the first edition of the W Gold Cup. The Salvadoran coach, Erick Acuña, said that he did not see it as a negative aspect, but rather, as a result that will help the team become stronger and become familiar with teams like the Canadians that stand out in the top 10 in the global ranking.
“Be clear that every time you lose, I am the one to blame, and not the players, they have no impact on this, I am the one who makes the decisions. I don’t think it was a mistake, I had budgeted for this, I know it will be a little difficult to understand because for the fan it is a little complicated to understand the construction of a football team that comes from scratch,” said the strategist.
The coach assured that they faced a very important team, with a completely different power from that of the national team and encompassed the result in a realistic situation, because if it is not that way there will be no starting point.
“We are playing with a very important team, I don’t like how they lost, of course, I would have liked to lose in a a little more dignified way, playing better, in the end I didn’t care about the goals, I wanted to see my team lose their fear to play with anyone, but it hasn’t been possible yet, we simply have to keep working,” he said.
The mistake that the women’s national team made, according to the Salvadoran strategist, fell on the fear with which the team faced the Canadian team, and they will have to be rational to compete.
The team demonstrated a different level than it had previously, and it is something that the coach highlighted and celebrated, something that for a team that continues to be built compared to a Canadian team that stands out in the top 10 worldwide, can be expected.
“We do not exist today, if we fought, if we learned, but we do not exist. They are the ones who have to feel these problems, I was a professional player and the way I learned to play was to play with little monsters that they taught me, which I was not ready for yet and that made me worry and prepare. “El Salvador is not going to lower its arms today or tomorrow or ever, we are going to continue fighting,”
Looking ahead to the match against Costa Rica this Sunday, the team will continue preparing both physically and mentally, given the lack of mental security that according to the coach there was not, to reach this important match against the Costa Rican team that will define the path of the blue and white.
“Everyone knows that our goal is the quarterfinals, but the real goal is to qualify for the World Cup in two years within this same competition, two and a half years for me is a long time and we are going to work in the best way so that this cannot happen.” pass because if we want to access we have to be able to play games like this,” he pointed out.
The team lost by a 6-0 defeat in the debut match, due to goals from Cloé Lacasse (3′), Jordyn Huitema (24′), Adriana León (28′, 59′ P), Kadeisha Buchanan (62′), Olivia Smith (86′), in a match where the Canadian team had complete control of the ball and the field of play.
At the beginning of the group stage, group C in which La Selecta is located, is led by Canada and Paraguay, who defeated El Salvador and Costa Rica, respectively.
