Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has commented on a key case surrounding Manchester City. He was asked if it was fair that the Citizens could win a fourth consecutive league title this season when the club is facing more than 100 alleged breaches of financial rules.
“We cannot comment on the case, the date (of the meeting) has been set. The case will resolve itself at some point in the near future,” explained Richard Masters, who also defended league officials amid comments from Nottingham Forest following last weekend’s loss to Everton.
“There is an opportunity for fair comments, but we are disappointed when statements are made implicating referees as to why they have made decisions. The case is part of an investigation. We cannot comment on this. The English referees are doing a very good job. We know that VAR needs to improve and part of that is upgrading the rules so that there is more space for communication with fans. We want to improve the situation for the fans,” assured Masters.
