The 48-year-old has already met with Djurgården, who took references to the Finn.
Djurgårdens IF have been looking for a new head coach for next season since Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf were sacked at the end of October.
There has been speculation about several names.
Among others, Jens Gustafsson in Al-Fateh, Peter Wettergren and Per-Mathias Högmo were mentioned among the possible candidates. Västerås SK’s Kalle Karlsson has also been discussed internally, and earlier on Wednesday Aftonbladet reported that they had met.

Expressen also revealed on Wednesday evening that Djurgårdens IF had met with KuPS champion coach Jani Honkavaara, 48, who recently won the Finnish double.
Several sources say that the Finn is one of Djurgården’s main avenues in finding a new coach and that the Stockholm club have taken references to Honkaavara.
At the same time, nothing should be ready or signed and Djurgården is slowly accelerating the recruitment of a new coach, where the aim is to have something ready before Christmas and the New Year.
Jani Honkavaara, in addition to his main role in KuPS, is also an assistant coach for the national team of Finland A. He has also coached SJK Seinäjoki and Helsinki.
Expressen has been in contact with Djurgården sports director Bosse Andersson, who does not want to comment on the coaching hunt.

What key qualities should Djurgården IF prioritize when selecting a new head coach, based on recent discussions in the football community?
Guest 1: We have Jani Honkavaara and another guest here with us today to discuss the ongoing search for a new head coach at Djurgården IF. Thank you for joining us. Can you start by telling us more about your coaching background and what makes you think you’d be a good fit for this position?
Guest 2: Honkavaara: Well, first of all, thank you for having me. I’ve been working in Finnish football for a while now, primarily as a coach for KuPS and the Finnish national team. I think my experience in developing young talent and winning championships in Finland has prepared me well for the challenge of coaching at Djurgården IF. I’m familiar with Swedish football as well, having played here for a few years, so I believe I can bring a unique perspective to the table.
Guest 1: Absolutely. Speaking of experience, Djurgården has met with several candidates over the past few weeks. What do you think sets you apart from the others in the search for a new head coach?
Honkavaara: I think my ability to work well with young players and develop their skills over time sets me apart. We’ve had a lot of success with KuPS, especially with our younger players, and I believe that’s due to the trust and relationships I’ve built with them. I also think that my understanding of modern football tactics and strategies would be an asset to the team.
Guest 1: Interesting. As we mentioned earlier, Djurgården recently sacked Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf after a disappointing season. What do you see as the biggest challenge in turning things around for the team?
Honkavaara: I think the biggest challenge will be establishing a winning culture and getting everyone on the same page. The team needs to believe in themselves and each other, and I’ll work hard to create an environment where they feel comfortable doing that. It’s also important to have a clear vision and identity for the club, which we can all rally behind.
Guest 2: Absolutely. And speaking of challenges, there have been discussions about bringing in Swedish or foreign coaches. What are your thoughts on the importance of a head coach’s nationality in this context?
