Lawyer criticizes four days off for Carabineros: “It is a lack of harmony with reality”
Cristin Cruz questioned that the medical staff did not receive those four days and that the announcement was made just when a millionaire embezzlement within the institution was announced.
Recently, the General Director of the Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez Reveco, announced the delivery of four days off for all personnel in the country, which generated criticism from the human rights lawyer, Cristián Cruz.
“We find it deeply discriminatory what the General Director of the Carabineros has done who, by virtue of the pandemic, that is, the tragedy, gives four days off to all the institution’s officials. Here, priority should be given to those officials such as non-commissioned officers and some officers who have left their feet in the street, who carry out controls, who work long and long hours outside of what perhaps could be a normal schedule, but we know that this is not applicable to all Carabineros de Chile officials, ”he said.
According to the lawyer, there are areas within the police entity where officials should not receive the benefit of the four days off announced by General Yáñez. “I wonder with the pandemic, has the Carabineros legal department worked more? Have the Carabineros lawyers been on the street? Today with teleworking, not only do they no longer have to go to court, they can be at home with their families, working during working hours without a doubt. But giving each and everyone the four days off, without understanding that as in every institution there are privileged groups, it seems to us a bad sign, “he argued.
Cruz assures that “each and every one of the people in this country, unless the Carabineros say otherwise, have sacrificed themselves with the pandemic and the State does not give them four days’ pay, because that is on vacation. I insist, there are police and There are not a few, those who are at risk of the pandemic, those who have left their feet in the street, reward them, but why to each and every one. It is that perhaps those who have been involved in embezzlement are also going to rewarding, of course, because the norm is for everyone ”.
The lawyer specializing in human rights cases added that the announcement of the days off occurred just when irregularities in discounts for health concepts were known to more than three thousand officials of the same institution.
“This information about the four days off was released on the same day that a fact that was already known to the Carabineros was made public, of this fraud, of this true appropriation of thousands of Carabineros by the same institution with illegal discounts. So, this seems to me a way of perhaps covering up this serious case, there are thousands of police affected and most are low-ranking, therefore, this (the four days off), is a bad compensation ”.
Cristian Cruz closed by raising his discomfort and questioning if “perhaps the medical personnel do not deserve those four days, this shows that once again the high command of the Carabineros is completely out of step with the reality of the country. And we want the good carabinieri to be recognized, the good carabinieri ”.
