May 28, 1950. Real Valladolid agrees for the first time to play the Generalissimo Cup Final. It is 70 years since one of the greatest feats achieved by the Blanquivioleta club in all its history. In fact, only two Cup finals have been played by Valladolid, that day against Athletic and on June 30, 1989 against Real Madrid. Both were lost. That May 28, 1950, 80,000 people gathered at the Chamartín Stadium, today called Santiago Bernabéu. Valladolid came after having had a good season in which they finished ninth in the League and after landing in the qualifying rounds against Real Sociedad, Sevilla and Real Madrid. The match turned out to be very close since after Athletic scoring in the first half, five minutes from the end, Coque tied and the match was resolved in overtime. There, Zarra, the legendary Athletic striker sentenced with three goals until the final 4-1. Saso, Lesmes I, Lesmes II, Babot, Ortega, Lasala, Revuelta, Aldecóa, Coque, Juanco and Vaquero played for Real Valladolid. The coach of that team was Antonio Barrios.
