Egypt and Sudan confirmed that the so-called Nile Basin Cooperation Framework Agreement (CFA) is not binding on either of them, not only because they have not joined it; But also because it goes against the principles of customary and contractual international law.

Al-Irrigation, in a statement today, Saturday, explained that the Joint Permanent Technical Authority for Nile Waters confirmed in a statement that the sides of Egypt and Sudan have made intensive and continuous efforts over the years to went away In order to restore coherence and heal the gap that caused some weak countries to accept a draft document that does not meet consensus, the Framework Agreement is called “CFA,” and is not according to the relevant rules of international law and the best international practices, including positive African experiences such as the Zambezi River Basin and Senegal, which will ensure the continuity of cooperation and sustainable development for all.

The statement confirmed that the two countries are looking for the mechanism that brings the basin countries together to be an agreed tool based on comprehensiveness and in their work that follows the established rules of transboundary water cooperation, and among them the principles of consultation and advance notification of projects are based on extensive scientific studies of the economic, social and environmental dimensions of the projects through which they are implemented However, these efforts have not found the necessary positive interaction .

As both sides renew their full commitment to cooperation with the Nile Basin countries within the framework of internationally recognized principles that benefit all without harming any of the countries, they confirm that the Nile Basin Cooperation Framework Agreement (CFA) as it is called. not connecting either one of them, not only because they don’t connect to him; But also because it goes against the principles of customary and contractual international law.

The two countries also confirmed that the six-nation commission that emerged from the incomplete framework agreement does not represent the Nile Basin in any way.

The statement indicated that out of mutual belief in the necessity and importance of water cooperation in the Nile Basin, they want the countries of the basin to restore unity to the Basin Initiative Nile and not to take unilateral measures that will contribute to the division between upstream and downstream countries in the Nile River Basin, out of the conviction of Egypt and Sudan that the restoration The Nile Basin Initiative, for its comprehensiveness, is the best way to agree a permanent framework and cooperation mechanism for the Nile Basin.
