– Not that kind of weather
This is the first time the British authorities have issued a level four warning since England’s heat wave plan was introduced in 2004. The heat poses a risk of serious illness and death, according to notified from the Met Office, the UK’s equivalent to the Meteorological Institute.
Ambulances are on standby.
Several prominent leaders on the island emphasize the importance of taking care of themselves and others in the days to come.
– In this country we are used to the fact that warm weather is a chance to enjoy life in the sun. This is not the type of weather , says Professor Penny Endersby, general manager at the Met Office.
Met Office is the UK’s equivalent of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
She further says that this is the first time they have had weather forecasts of 40 degrees Celsius in the UK.
Dr. Agostinho Sousa has the following to say about the heat wave:
– Next week, temperatures in England will probably reach record levels. Make sure that vulnerable, family and neighbors are hydrated, cooled and that they know how to keep their homes cool.
He is the head of extreme incidents and health protection at the UK Health Security Agency.
“Enjoy the sunshine”
While the health authorities turn on the warning lights, the government seems to have a more relaxed approach to it all.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson missed a crisis meeting on the heat wave at the Prime Minister’s office in London. That’s because he took a weekend break at his country house, where he hosted a farewell party for friends on Sunday. Johnson leaves office in September.
Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab encourages the use of sunscreen and asks people to stay hydrated and away from the sun during the hottest times.
– We should enjoy the sunshine. And we should be resilient enough to handle some of the pressure that will arise, says Raad to Sky News .
The head of the UK Ambulance Service, Tracy Nicholls, is reacting to the Deputy Prime Minister’s remarks.
– It is not a common heat that you can protect yourself from with sunscreen. This is serious heat that can actually cause death, says Nicholls.
Fine weather in Norway
The warm air that is reflected in weather forecasts of 40 degrees over the North Sea will also reach Norway. But the thermometer will probably not creep as high in this country.
According to Martin Granerød, we will have warm weather in Norway next week. He is a meteorologist on duty at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
– In southern Norway, Tuesday and Wednesday will probably be the best days with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees.
In the north of the country, the heat from southern Europe will come towards the start of the weekend.
– In Nordland, Wednesday and Thursday will be the warmest days, with over 25 degrees. In the far north, it will be warmest on the Finnmarksvidda and East Finnmark with around 25 degrees on Thursday and Friday, Granerød says.

Not as hot in Norway, but hot
In connection with this hot air, it will not be as hot in Norway as in the United Kingdom. Granerød says that there are many reasons for this, but there are two main reasons why it is getting cooler in Norway.
– One is that sea absorbs heat better than land. The hot air from Great Britain must cross the North Sea to reach Norway. Hot air from the south must over the Skagerak. The second is that solar radiation is stronger in southern Europe, than up here in our latitudes, he explains.
