NEW YANNENA CITIZEN UNIT
From January 2023, the application process to the Public Enterprise of Gas Distribution Networks (DEDA) has started for private connections of citizens and households and small businesses and the faction, “Unity of Citizens of Nea Ioannina”, noting the information gap that exists from the municipal authority, undertakes to inform the fellow citizens about this important development, stressing that in order to achieve the densification of the network and to develop it in all the neighborhoods of our city, the participation of citizens should be increased, so that there are no exclusions of areas with enormous connection difficulties next day.
Immediate actions
“In an effort to ensure that our city is not left behind again due to the indifference of the Municipal Authority”, as noted by Mr. Bega’s faction, it intends to proceed immediately:
– In the routing of the mapping of the buildings of the Municipality where administrative and cultural services operate, educational and hospital buildings, medical centers and support structures for vulnerable groups, sports facilities, as well as other buildings of provision and sending it to DEDA for examination of connection.
– Immediate study of their energy needs and operating requirements and with the aim of including them in the planning of the activities of the EDTA and the care on its part for the coordination of its required actions, with the aim of serving the Municipality’s requests for the connection as directly as possible with the natural gas network.
– At the same time, it should organize reinforcing information-information actions with the aim of increasing the penetration rate in the existing network of the region.
– Immediate implementation of joint communication actions with DEDA that will aim to inform citizens about the benefits provided by connecting their properties and businesses to natural gas. As well as in their information regarding the connection process, the financial facilities provided and other updates.
– Ensuring the intention of the two parties to connect more consumers to the natural gas network by collecting expressions of interest of potential consumers as a priority, as it contributes decisively to the future planning of expansions in the area.
The benefits
The benefits of natural gas include uniform and high-quality heating in all areas of use, hot water at any time, faster cooking, low boiler maintenance costs and full control of the amount of natural gas consumed. Also, the interested consumers – domestic and commercial – receive detailed information on the process of connecting to the natural gas distribution network and to carry out, with the help of DEDA officials, immediately and on the spot the request for expression of interest.
In economic terms the advantages are also significant. The price of natural gas is comparatively lower than that of oil or electricity. Savings reach up to 40% from home heating and up to 50% from electricity. Saving is about both money and energy used. Also, households and small and medium-sized businesses no longer need to pre-pay for the amount of oil by calling someone to fill your boiler. With natural gas, payment will be made proportionally to consumption through a digital measurement process.
In environmental terms, natural gas when burned produces significantly less carbon dioxide than other fuels. In this way, it contributes correspondingly less to the greenhouse effect. It also does not produce sulfur compounds, which is the cause of acid rain and environmental pollution in general. Due to its gaseous form it is not responsible for soil and groundwater contamination. While its reserves are enough for another 100 years of use.
For its installation, all that is required is the connection to the central natural gas network of your city and the installation of a meter and a central boiler-burner. The change of water pipes, heating or radiator bodies is not necessary. In the case of autonomous heating, an individual wall-mounted boiler is installed for each interested party. The supply of natural gas is done by external piping that reaches from the boiler to the meter.
The initiatives of “Citizens’ Unity”
In closing, the faction reminds that since 2018 as a municipal authority, it has been in close cooperation with DEDA Greece and RAE, monitoring all the development processes of strategic plans and network development plans, intervening dynamically to put the city of Ioannina on the map of the network. Letters of intervention were sent to RAE in December 2018 and to DEDA in July 2018. The culmination of the systematic interventions was in September 2018, the presence of Mayor Thomas Bega at a meeting of the Energy Regulatory Authority on the Natural Gas network development plan in Greece in September of 2018, where the Mayor of Ioannina Mr. Thomas Begas strongly expressed his dissatisfaction with the scheduling for the city of Ioannina and the strong desire of the local community of Ioannina for natural gas to become a reality for Epirus as soon as possible, stressing that the local government will contribute in every way to achieve this.
