The handover ceremony is expected to take place this summer at the Headquarters of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (Mons, Belgium).

Christopher J. Cavoli is a US Army General who is currently Commander of the US Army in Europe and Africa. He previously served as Commander of the US Army in Europe from January 2018 to September 30, 2020. On 1 October 2020, he assumed command of the Joint Europe and Africa Command.

General Cavoli, drafted into the infantry in 1987, has served in various roles in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Commanded the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment; Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Brigade, 1st Armored Division; 7th Army Training Command; and the 25th Infantry Division.

He also served as Deputy Commander, Regional Command Western, Herat, Afghanistan, and Deputy Commander, Operations, 82nd Airborne Division.

He has experience as Director for Russia at the Joint Staff; was Deputy Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and director of the chief of staff of the Army Coordination Group.

General Cavoli is a foreign affairs officer specializing in Eurasia. He speaks Italian, Russian and French. He holds degrees from Princeton and Yale Universities.

Previously Russian Foreign Ministry accuses NATO of “proxy war” and warned of a high likelihood of expanding the zone of hostilities beyond the borders of Ukraine.
