Norovirus is the cause of stomach problems in Plovdiv Sports School students who have been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Clinic. This became clear after the results of the hospitalized children were released by the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, BNT reported.
Noroviruses are transmitted in different ways, both via the air droplet route and through poorly washed fruit and leafy vegetables, are resistant to high temperatures and have an incubation period of up to 3 days.
According to the Regional Health Inspectorate, there is no way to rule out food as a source of infection, as it is impossible for so many children to have the same symptoms at the same time.
Recall that nearly 70 children showed symptoms – stomach pain, vomiting and ailments, 14 of them were hospitalized for treatment at the Infectious Diseases Clinic. They are all fine now and they are going to school and training.
However, noroviruses were not found in the food the students consumed in the chair, the Food Agency said, and explained that, according to the research results, the menu was not the cause of the mass stomach problems.
The chair of the sports school remains closed until the end of the month, a complete disinfection is currently underway. Control samples will be taken and, if they are clean, the dining room, where nearly 300 students eat, will be reopened, the Plovdiv Agency explained.
