Books – Youssef Afifi:

From 1 November 2022 the hotels at the level of the Republic will begin to implement the decision on the minimum prices of accommodation, in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in conjunction with the improvement of the hotel occupancy rates in Egypt during the first half of 2022.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities seeks to tackle the phenomenon of “burning prices” and to develop the return on Egyptian tourism, as well as to increase the quality of hotel services.

The Ministry has set a minimum price for accommodation in hotels, provided that the application is effective from 1 November 2022, as follows:

$ 50 for five star hotel.

– $ 40 for four-star hotels.

$ 30 for three star hotel.

$ 20 for two star hotel.

$ 10 for one star hotel.

As part of its support for cultural tourism, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has granted a 50% discount on ticket prices in Upper Egypt, New Valley and Fayoum and has granted a 40% discount on combined tickets for the museums of Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh.

The decision to set a minimum price for accommodation in hotels aims to tackle the “price burn” phenomenon, to which some hotels have resorted, as well as to preserve the fiscal rights of the state. Since hotels are economic establishments, the state must get a return on the privileges it obtains, including residing in coastal areas

The number of tourist arrivals to Egypt increased 85.4% in the first half of this year, reaching 4.9 million tourists, up from 2.6 million a year ago, but is still lower than 6 , 1 million tourists in the first half of 2019, according to a statement from the Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics.

The government is trying to tackle the phenomenon of rising prices and develop the return of Egyptian tourism, as well as improving the quality of hotel services, in conjunction with the improvement in hotel occupancy rates in Egypt in the first half of 2022 and expectations of a better winter season than last year.
