It appears that Ubisoft is testing out in-game advertising

We’ve heard that you like immersion in games, so we’ve made sure that when you open the map, it will be broken when you see an ad for our latest title. At least that seems to be Ubisoft’s new strategy at the moment.

A user on Reddit shared a clip of them opening the map in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey only to be greeted with an offer of 20% off Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This isn’t too worrying, as it’s an ad for a Ubisoft game and it tells you about a one-time offer, but it still ruins the experience, which obviously wasn’t very well received by people.

It’s unlikely that this is going to be the start of ads in all of our games, as again it seems like Ubisoft really wanted to highlight the Black Friday deal. Let us know what you think, but if you’re on the hunt for Black Friday deals, check out our extensive list here.

UPDATE: Ubisoft has since claimed that a technical error caused this, but we’re still unsure if it was meant to be rolled out to the public or if it was for limited testing. Anyway, an ad was created.
