Israel’s worst political crisis is not over

The calling for the fifth election in three years is a clear indication that Israel’s worst political crisis did not end when this government took office.

The president of Israel Democracy InstituteYohanan Plesner, stated about the decision to dissolve the Knesset (Parliament):

“Prime Minister Bennett’s decision to dissolve the Knesset and call the fifth election in just three years is a clear indication that Israel’s worst political crisis did not end when this government took office, but merely regressed to return when the coalition failed to find a way forward. While the Bennett-Lapid administration undoubtedly played an important role in passing the budget and moving forward with other important legislation, this ongoing crisis will not end until Israel’s leaders put aside their political differences and enact electoral and constitutional reforms that They should have been implemented a long time ago.”

“It is also important to note that while this government was one of the shortest in Israel to hold office, it played a historic role in including an Arab party in the coalition and in the decisions made by the national leadership, and by thus paving the way for the possibility of greater inclusion of the Arab minority in the political process and in Israeli society as a whole,” Plesner added.
