Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Israel continues to launch attacks on the Palestinian enclave, Gaza. According to reports from a number of international media, Thursday (9/11/2023), the Jewish State has entered the “heart of the city” in Gaza and destroyed hundreds of underground tunnels (bunkers) of Hamas fighters.

A number of images show how Israeli battle tanks carry out operations in the ruins of Gaza. Israel claims to have destroyed 130 Hamas tunnels in Gaza.

On the other hand, Israel’s bombardment of Gaza continues. From data from the Gaza Ministry of Health, 10,569 people have died in the region.

In addition, 1.5 million Gaza residents have been displaced since October 7. Yesterday, images circulated of how Gaza residents flocked to evacuate themselves from their territory in the north, holding white flags on Israeli orders.

Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu in his latest statement Wednesday continued to emphasize that there would be no ceasefire until all Israeli hostages were freed. So what will Israel do with Gaza if the war continues?

Here’s a summary CNBC Indonesiafrom various sources:

Netanyahu said

Netanyahu’s government says its actions in Gaza will continue until Hamas is destroyed. According to him, Hamas has become an open threat to Israel and its citizens since the group attacked its territory on October 7.

If that were to happen, Netanyahu said there would be a “return of responsibility for security in Gaza to the Israeli government”. The last time this happened was in 2006 when Israel occupied the Palestinian enclave.

“Israel for the indefinite future will have overall security in a responsible manner because we have seen what happens if we don’t have it,” the number one person in the Israeli government was quoted as saying AFP.

US said

However, what Netanyahu said was rejected by his close ally the United States (US). This was said by the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

“Israel cannot take back control and responsibility for Gaza. Israel has made it clear that it has no intention or desire to do so,” he said.

International law

Israel’s return to the region has also raised question marks. Under international humanitarian law, the prolonged presence of Israeli troops in Gaza would make the occupation responsible for the lives of civilians.

This is found in the Geneva Conventions. Where it is stated “the occupying power has an obligation to ensure the availability of adequate supplies of food and medicine, as well as clothing, bedding, shelter and other supplies essential for the survival of the civilian population in the occupied territory”.

New City Replaces Gaza?

Meanwhile, a theory emerged in the war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas. There has been speculation that Israel intends to take over the Palestinian enclave.

Several social media users spread news claiming that a new city called Nova would be built on the ruins of the Gaza Strip. This was spread by a businessman named Alex Daniel, who has 133 thousand followers on his social media.

“I present to you the new tourist and holiday city in the south that will soon be built in Israel: Nova,” he was quoted as saying Al Bawaba.

An imagined depiction of the city of Nova, showing tall buildings and highly developed areas. The photo also claims that the city will primarily be a tourist attraction.

Many pro-Palestinian activists and citizens were angry with the post. They call it a plan to destroy Gaza and turn it into an Israeli city.

“This is Gaza and forever Gaza and Palestine will soon be free, God willing,” wrote one netizen.

Where is the UN?

On the other hand, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres considers that this conflict is the culmination of Israel’s discriminatory treatment of the Palestinian people. According to him, a two-state solution is a realistic idea for building peace.

“Even in this moment of grave and threatening danger, we must not forget the only realistic basis for true peace and stability, the two-state solution,” Guterres was quoted as saying two weeks ago. Sarajevo Times.

Guterres’ remarks were also echoed by the UN special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese. In an interview with the Guardian, he explained that the international community was reaping heavy consequences for not paying attention to the concerns of those who criticized Israel’s “systematic repression of Palestinian human rights”.

“We warned the international community, the human rights community, but no one really listened,” Albanese explained.

“Now it has reached a dangerous point where the chances of peaceful coexistence have plummeted. In fact, we are staring into an abyss,” he added.

He challenged Israel to consider what was in its own interests. The reason is that currently Gaza has been devastated, and young children and the younger generation in the region may have very bad memories of Israel.

“When you see the children there, deep trauma hits their tiny bodies,” he said.

“They can talk like adults, they talk about rights, they talk about the world they know and the world they want to be. They live in fear, and their biggest fear is not seeing their mother and father again, both because they killed or because their own children were killed,” he explained.
