Al-Marsad Newspaper – Reuters: Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi revealed on Friday that Israel is not close to launching an attack on Iranian nuclear sites, at a time when talks between Tehran and Washington seek to calm tensions.
Hanegbi told Channel 13 TV that “any agreement would not be binding on Israel, which sees a nuclear-armed Iran as an existential threat to it.”
preemptive strike
In response to a question about how close Israel is to taking a preemptive strike against Iran, Hanegbi said, “We are not getting close (to this) because the Iranians have stopped, for a while now, and they are not enriching uranium to the level that we see as the red line.”
Hanegbi added, “But this may happen. Therefore, we are preparing for that moment, if it comes, when we will have to defend the people of Israel against a fanatical regime that seeks our annihilation and is armed with weapons of mass destruction.”
Iran’s red line
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu set the “red line” that Iranian uranium enrichment has reached a fissile purity of 90%. Iran has increased uranium enrichment to 60% purity in the past few years.
