Israel’s Move to Ban Al Jazeera Following Accusations of Reporter Working for Hamas

Tel Aviv: Israel moves to ban Al Jazeera. The new move comes after a reporter from the media is accused of working for Hamas.

The Knesset, Israel’s parliament, passed a bill by 25 votes to 4 that would allow the Defense Ministry to temporarily ban media outlets deemed dangerous to national security.

It is locally known as the ‘Al Jazeera Law’ as the law was introduced specifically targeting Al Jazeera.

The action comes after the Israeli military spokesman accused Al Jazeera’s reporter Muhammad Washah of being a terrorist.

In the morning, he is a journalist for Al Jazeera channel. In the evening, the militant of Hamas!’ Lt. Col. Aviche posted on Address X, sharing a photo showing Washah using the weapon.

Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi drafted the ‘Al Jazeera Law’ after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war in response to Hamas’ counterattack on October 7.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken asked the Qatari government to reduce the level of reporting of the Gaza war by the Al Jazeera network. Al Jazeera is an independent news network funded by the government of Qatar.

Yesterday, two Al Jazeera employees were seriously injured in an Israeli airstrike.
