A number of senior military officials Israel admits that about two civilians are killed for every militant Hamas who died in Gaza Strip. It also stated that the Israeli military deployed high-tech mapping software to try to reduce non-combatant deaths in the Gaza Strip.
As reported AFP and Al Arabiya, Tuesday (5/12/2023), the Gaza Ministry of Health, which is controlled by Hamas, reported that a series of Israeli military attacks, following the attack on October 7, had killed at least 15,900 people so far. Most of the victims killed were children and women.
When asked about media reports that 5,000 Hamas militants were killed in attacks in the Gaza Strip, one senior Israeli military official told reporters at a briefing that: “That number is more or less correct.”
“I’m not saying it wouldn’t be bad if we had a two-to-one ratio,” said one senior Israeli military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The official also stated that the use of human shields was part of Hamas’ ‘core strategy’.
“Hopefully it (the ratio-ed) will be much lower (in the next phase of the war),” said the senior Israeli military official.
The rising death toll and humanitarian crisis occurring in the Gaza Strip has sparked outrage across much of the world. Israel began bombarding targets in the Gaza Strip, along with ground operations, with the aim of crushing Hamas after the surprise attack on October 7.
According to Tel Aviv officials, the Hamas attacks have killed around 1,200 people and taken more than 240 others hostage.
