West Bank?

The West Bank is part of the Palestinian territories, along with the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. Israel has occupied it since 1967.

In addition to approximately 3 million Palestinians, hundreds of thousands of Israelis also live in so-called settlements. These are illegal under international law, but Israel disputes that.

In the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, has limited administrative power. On the other hand, Hamas has power in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian armed groups, including members of Hamas, are also active in various places in the West Bank. Israel has launched attacks on these groups in recent months.
