Israel’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday it would buy a third squadron of F-35 fighter jets in a deal worth $3 billion.
The ministry added that the 25 aircraft will be manufactured by Lockheed Martin, and will raise the total number of F-35s in the Israeli Air Force to 75, adding that the deal will be financed through aid provided by the United States to the Israeli army.
Israel is the first country other than the United States to acquire F-35 fighter jets.
And in May 2018, the commander of the Israeli Air Force said that Israel would be the first country to use the aircraft in hostilities.
These fighters are also known as “Joint Strike Fighter” and in Israel by their Hebrew name “Adir”.
The Ministry of Defense added that the two companies, “Lockheed Martin” and “Prat Induitni”, which manufactures the engines, agreed to involve Israeli defense companies in the production of components for these aircraft.
