Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament and leader of the Amal Movement, Nabih Berri, said today, Friday, that the decision to escalate is in the hands of Israel and not in Lebanon… hours before an expected speech by the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, Hassan Nasrallah.
Berri said in a statement that what Hezbollah is doing on the border comes within the rules of engagement, adding: “If the Israelis want to expand the operation, we are ready for that. The decision to escalate on the northern front of occupied Palestine lies with the Israelis, not in Lebanon, so what the resistance is doing on the borders is It comes in a natural context of the presence of occupied Lebanese territories.”
He added: “All operations come within the rules of engagement, and if the Israelis want to expand the operation, we are ready for that.”
Berri added: “What the Israeli is trying to do is very dangerous, and his project, carried by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is old and aims today to achieve change in the Middle East. Therefore, the battle in Gaza is essential and sensitive, but on the southern front, things are theirs, and deterioration is possible at this stage.”
It is noteworthy that Berri leads the “Shiite” Amal movement, which forms an alliance with Hezbollah, called the “Shiite duo” in Lebanon.
