Israel’s atrocities against its citizens Gaza, Palestine, continues. Most recently, the Israeli military attacked a crowd of residents Gaza who were fighting for humanitarian aid, causing hundreds of people to die.
Reported AFP, Friday (1/3/2024), this terrible incident occurred when residents were fighting over aid brought by trucks carrying humanitarian aid on Thursday (29/2). Initially, the Director of the Emergency Unit at Al-Shifa Gaza Hospital, Amjad Aliwa, said that 50 people had died and 120 people had been injured.
An eyewitness said the incident occurred at the Nabulsi roundabout in the western part of Gaza City. At that time, according to witnesses, there were thousands of people rushing towards the trucks carrying humanitarian aid.
“The truck full of relief goods came too close to several army tanks that were in the area and thousands of people rushed at the truck,” said an eyewitness who declined to be named for security reasons.
“Soldiers opened fire on the crowd when people got too close to the tanks,” he added.
The number of victims killed in this incident continues to increase. Reported Al Jazeera, Gaza’s Ministry of Health said 112 people died as a result of attacks by Israeli troops on Gaza residents waiting for humanitarian aid. Apart from that, 760 people were injured as a result of the heinous attack.
Israel’s pretext
Israel then argued that its troops only fired warning shots. Israel argued that the shots were fired to disperse the crowd surrounding the aid truck.
Reported The Times of Israel, Tel Aviv claimed that its initial investigation showed that most of the victims died in a stampede by the crowd. Israel also claimed the death toll was caused by being run over by aid vehicles.
The Israeli military also claimed that a group of armed men were at the location and opened fire while looting the aid.
The Israeli military claims its troops did not open fire on crowds crowding aid trucks in the Gaza Strip. However, Israel admitted its troops opened fire on several Gaza residents who were considered a danger to their troops by moving close to its troops and a tank at a military checkpoint in the area, after the crowd stormed the last truck in a humanitarian aid convoy.
The Israeli military also released a video recorded from the air using a drone showing thousands of people crowding around aid trucks arriving in the northern Gaza Strip area. In a few moments, the aid vehicles continued to drive through the crowd. The trucks carrying aid, the Israeli military claims, are driven by ‘a number of private contractors’.
