An Al Jazeera journalist reported that an Israeli attack targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, while Israeli media reported that the attack targeted a senior Hezbollah leader.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health confirmed that two people were killed and 15 wounded in the initial toll of an Israeli attack on Beirut’s south bank.

The correspondent said that the attack by the F-35 aircraft took place in the Al-Qaim area in the southern suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

He said rescue teams and an ambulance entered the targeted building, and that severe damage occurred to the targeted building and nearby buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

For its part, Israel’s Army Radio reported what it described as an assassination in Beirut targeting the commander of Hezbollah’s drone unit.

He said that a military source said that the Air Force carried out an assassination operation in the southern suburbs of Beirut and that a senior Hezbollah commander was the target of that attack.

She said the Hezbollah leader was targeted by an F-35 plane, and that it happened near the assassination site of Hezbollah’s military chief, Ibrahim Aqeel, in the southern suburbs.

Agence France-Presse quoted a source it said was close to Hezbollah as saying, “The Israeli attack targeted the commander of Hezbollah’s marching unit, Muhammad Sorour, nicknamed Abu Saleh, without his fate being still clear.”

Regarding Reuters, he said that two security sources confirmed that Muhammad Sorour, the commander of one of Hezbollah’s air force units, was killed in an Israeli strike on the south bank of Beirut on Thursday afternoon.

The Israeli army had previously announced that it had launched a “precision strike” without providing additional information about them.
