She is known to be a 21-year-old woman from central Israel named Mia Shem.
Hamas also released an image of the woman receiving treatment with her hand bandaged.
Previously, Hamas also promoted images of its members caring for captured children.
Hamas claims to be holding between 200 and 250 Israeli hostages.
“There are 6,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons,” Khaled Meshaal, the former head of Hamas, said in a recorded video released by Al-Arabiya TV. “We want to release them in exchange for Israeli prisoners.”
Israel strongly criticized Hamas’s move.
In a statement released by the Israeli military, it criticized Hamas, saying, “Hamas is trying to portray itself humanely through the released video,” adding, “But they are a terrible terrorist organization that kills and kidnaps babies, children, men, women, and the elderly.”
The Israeli military added that it was “using all intelligence and operational means to secure the return of the hostages held by Hamas,” including the kidnapped woman, Mia.
